Lived and worked in Graz and on the Canary Islands. After graduating from Graz school of Arts and Crafts he studied painting in Vienna. From 1960 extremely gestural drawings and paintings that broke free of their borders; from 1964 ‘actions’ that consisted of a process of painting himself, an analysis and mutilation of the body that takes it to its limits (Zerreißprobe). His work results in a synthesis of painting and poetry. 1996, Grand Austrian State Prize.
