Maria Peters

*1966   lives and works in Vienna

She studied at the University of Applied Arts with Bernhard Leitner, as well as at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna with Renée Green. Seminars for language experiments with Franz Schuh. Peters' post-conceptual position has been a (self-) ironically experimental, but nevertheless serious confrontation with social longings and breaks that she is consistently pursuing for almost twenty years: she travels and tells of the distant / foreign and thus reveals their idealization. It is reminiscent of (and satirizes it at the same time) the search for happiness and the dream of a better world. Reality and fiction are intertwined. With Peters, they are a dialectical one that needs to be dissected with relish. (Ralf Westhag)

Discover the almost 1,200 works in our constantly growing collection in our online database. In the future, the collection will be expanded primarily through the purchases of current contemporary art associated with the art prizes. However, the jury will also recommend annual purchases to the Board of Directors to supplement the existing holdings of recent Tyrolean art history.
