Matthias Noggler

*1990   lives and works in Vienna

He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna with Silke Otto Knapp, Henning Bohl and Julian Göthe. Noggler uses various painterly genres and styles to create figurative to abstract compositions that represent current social conditions. He mainly works with gouache and pencil on paper and his drawings depict contemporary urban milieus and intimate domestic environments. The figures shown encounter one another in a momentary sense of belonging and anonymous intimacy, or they gather at home, somnambulously absorbed in themselves. The imagery in these disparate scenes of alienated everyday life ranges from factual to expressively surreal. Moments of tense togetherness alternate with scenes of confrontation and social dissolution and offer an ambivalent view of the complex mechanisms of subjectivity and the social self.

In the future, the collection will be expanded primarily through the purchases of current contemporary art associated with the art prizes. However, the jury will also recommend annual purchases to the Board of Directors to supplement the existing holdings of recent Tyrolean art history.
